Apple Time Capsule
Not to be out done by all the other Kiwi’s enjoying new Apple toys recently (the likes of Rod and Nic), after a bit of a discussion with Nic about his recent purchase of a Time Capsule I thought I’d go out and get one for myself.
Since I’m now in London it only makes sense for me to buy directly from the mothership, the swanky Regent Street Apple Store.
The place is a Mecca for Apple-geeks, with tables of MacBook Air’s out for use, and rows of iPhones and touches stretching out on the east edge of the shop, with a glass staircase (ascending to the Mac heavens, where Steve Jobs sits shoveling popcorn chicken into God’s mouth [there's always room for a Simpsons reference]).
So far so good, in regards to the Time Capsule, only another 60GB of backups to go… it may take a while, and that pretty white box is getting pretty warm pretty quickly.
The setup process is a bit different from what most users would be use to, without a web interface (or SSH/telnet as far as I’m aware) you’re forced to use the Airport Configuration utility that comes with OS X.
But the setup process is far simpler than any interface I’ve used previously, even alerting me to the fact I had two DHCP daemons running on the same network and suggesting bridge-mode to fix the issue.
Now if only I could get it to download Torrents for me…
