Air NZ goes live!

The Air New Zealand redesign has gone live!

New AirNZ site goes live!

I’ve contributed small parts of HTML, CSS and Javascript to this project, so it’s nice to see it go live finally. All in all, I think you’ll agree, it’s a large improvement over the previous version.

Although we weren’t responsible for the design (this was done by a design house in Auckland), we have given the site a bit more of a modern design code wise. The site is now using modern CSS techniques, including drop down menus – these were based on Suckerfish, but I had to modify it to work as we wanted.

Some of the biggest issues with this site came from the footer design. The design called for a gradient hover of a specific height on the centered footer links; this proved to be impossible with UL’s and CSS. In the end a table had to be employed to achieve the effect.

There are still a few layout tables on the site – this is partly to do with keeping the code-changes to the site templates down and also to keep browser compatability (AirNZ has a wide browser list).

All in all a good job by the team. Kudos.
