That's not standard UK customer service, that's just the telecoms industry. I used to work for BT (as part of the Wholesale team working with big mobile operators) and I can tell you that from inside the whole thing looks like it's held together with a few bits of old string.

I'm not surprised either at your problems with Phones4U. Next time I'd recommend going straight to 3 and cutting out the frankly disinterested 3rd party.

I'm a very happy 3 and NTL Telewest Business (basically Virgin Media, but better service) customer. I wouldn't trust BT to provide a dial-up connection, let alone broadband!

We moved house - accross London - 9 weeks ago. I called BT 2 weeks before to get the move sorted. I got the line, finally, installed on monday, and the DSL will be next tuesday.

Expect slow. It took 6 weeks when we get here to get a phone line. And their ex-CEO is now CEO of telecom.

BT sucks. BADLY. Get Virgin Cable if you can. Tho their customer service isn't much better, the internet connection IS better.
